TDW – Tom de Wit

Biography

TDW is the solo project of Dutch multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Tom de Wit, based in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. Across more than a decade of albums he has shaped a genre-bending take on symphonic progressive metal — melodic yet intense, weaving soaring choirs, electronics, growls and clean vocals into richly detailed, often conceptual records. De Wit is a true multimedia creator: alongside his music he has built the multimedia project Bane of the Talebearer (Which also ties into this musical output), filmed festival documentaries for multiple big progressive rock and metal festivals and recorded a string of off-beat YouTube cover songs.

On record, TDW frames his vocals, guitars, synths and percussion with a rotating cast of guest musicians — including musicians from different bands like bassist Rich Gray and drummer Fabio Alessandrini (both of Annihilator) or Galen Stapley (of Twilight Force) to name a few — and full choirs, giving every album a cinematic, ever-shifting scope. That ambition has won consistent critical praise: the deeply personal, autobiographical The Days The Clock Stopped (2020) was called “a highly original, daring and emotionally adventurous album” by DPRP, while the fan-driven Fountains (2021) earned a 9/10 from Ave Noctum, who simply judged it “exceptional”. It is the work of an artist whose records, in DPRP’s words, keep “getting better and better”.
