Song: Clairvoyance (Single Release, 2014)

Hillsphere is a Post-Progressive Rock band from The Netherlands. Musically the band draws from a wide spectrum often seen as a combination of Progressive Rock and Metal with a lot of emphasis on the emotional and atmospheric aspects. Their sound has been described as an increasing amount of intensity that melancholically builds up towards a more open climax with aggressive undertones. With songs like “Aquarius” and “Clairvoyance” leaning on a very melodic tapestry accentuating the Progressive Rock side of Hillsphere, but also songs like “Our Physical Way Of Speaking” and “Mind At Rest” providing an impact that is not unlike certain darker metal acts out there today. This diversity gives the band it’s progressive nature.

Hillsphere started out as the musical endeavour of main composer, guitarist and keyboardist Elias Mayer, but soon evolved into a full-fledged live band. Their first live appearances where mainly instrumental. When they eventually started producing their debut album, Elias asked vocalist Tim Beimer for a guest appearance on the song ‘Our Physical Way Of Speaking’, which ended up as the fourth track on their debut album “Florescence”. It didn’t take long before Elias made the decision to feature Tim on the rest of the album as well. With Tim on their sides, Hillsphere played stages across the Netherlands in support of diverse acts within the progressive scene like Pain of Salvation, Vandenplas and Soul Secret. In these formative stages, the band was able to develop their sound and concept.

After a slew of line-up changes, the band settled on their current formation with Robin Waij on guitars, Kevin van der Reijnst on Bass and Wouter Macare on drums. The debut album “Florescence” (released in May of 2018) can be seen as the bands’ starting point of sorts, showcasing all the things Hillsphere can be identified by. However, the band is now also working on new songs that will push their music further, while planning new live shows and taking steps in their development to create a space of their own in the musical world. Hillsphere’s florescence has only just started…
